Using wave power, a renewable resource, to generate electricity could potentially satisfy a large portion of America’s power needs in the future. Despite this great potential, however, critics have pointed out several problems with wave production. The salt in the ocean’s water is very corrosive, which could degrade wave power units and thus increase costs. In addition, harsh sea conditions, including high winds and waves, are common and can damage or even sink equipment.
